Wrexham Community Choir , a choir with over 100 members, is inviting new members to join when it returns for the new term on Tuesday 6th September. The choir has been meeting weekly since it formed in 2012 and is open to everyone, regardless of age, experience or singing ability – there are no auditions, no need to read music – simply turn up and sing.

Alongside weekly singing practices, Wrexham Community Choir  runs singing workshops and performs  at local events. In recent months they have sung at the Wrexham History Day, at the  50th anniversary of the closure of  Llay Main Colliery, collaborated on a singing project with local band Heal the Last Stand, travelled to Leicester to perform at the National Street Choir Festival and collaborated with the Coleridge in Wales arts tour.

Musical Director Carol Donaldson said “ Many people think they can’t sing but I believe everyone has a voice and singing together can help people gain confidence in using their voice plus there are the benefits of having fun, making new friends and having opportunities to get involved in other activities in Wrexham.  Wrexham Community Choir is open to all , from experienced singers to those who only sing in the shower and especially for those who have been told they can’t sing. We’re looking forward to a new term and have lots of exciting events coming up and hope people will continue to join us every week to sing their heart out , feel uplifted, improve their health and have fun singing in a large group.”

Carol Donaldson, an accomplished choir leader and composer for music, theatre, television and radio, is also looking forward to leading a mass choir sing in Wrexham on 24th September when over 25 choirs will be singing together in Queen’s Square to close the first Singing Street Festival in the town.

Carol continued “ Whilst I have conducted mass choirs in the past, including 1000 singers in Hebden Bridge in 2014, this will be the first time in my home town.  I’m delighted to be part of this exciting event  and look forward to conducting and hearing 600 voices resounding through Wrexham town centre on 24th  September”,

Wrexham Community Choir meets every Tuesdays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the Wrexham Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome – from seasoned singers to terrified beginners. Email info@wrexhamchoir.co.uk for more information.
